So, you’ve read our review, downloaded the demo and pre-ordered the game – there’s now just one last thing left to do if you’re a PC gamer…
Both AMD and Nvidia have released new drivers that help to ensure optimal compatibility with 2K Games’ must-play title.
AMD’s driver update is available as a hotfix and installs on top of your existing driver. It’s said to fix stuttering, missing surfaces and/or display corruption in the game. You can download the update for both 32-bit and x64 versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista from this AMD knowledge base page
Curiously, AMD lists all products from the Radeon 9500 to Radeon HD 2900 XT in the knowledge base entry, despite the demo’s readme file stating that the game requires a graphics card which supports Pixel Shader 3.0. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone can get this game running on an X800 or X850, for example, as they only support Pixel Shader 2.0b.
Nvidia has also released a set of Forceware beta drivers, version 163.44, which again lists improved compatibility for BioShock
in the release notes. You can grab these drivers here
in Windows Vista, Windows Vista x64, Windows XP, Windows XP x64, and Windows Server 2003 x64 flavours.
